Percent of Women Receiving Prenatal Care in the First Trimester

County: Washoe
Measurement Period: 2022

Percent of women who received prenatal care in their first trimester of pregnancy.

Why is this important?

Prenatal care in the first trimester is crucial to the health of mother and child and has been shown to reduce the incidence of low birthweight babies, congenital infections, premature births, and infant deaths.  Screenings for risk factors associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes can reveal pre-existing health issues as most fetal organs form in the first trimester.  This indicator may be directly related to women having affordable health insurance with affordable coverage.
