Workers who Bike to Work

Select a Zip Code
Measurement Period: 2018-2022
This indicator shows the percentage of workers aged 16 years and over who get to work by bicycling.

Why is this important?

Active commuting methods, such as biking, are good for workers' health as well as their environment. Numerous studies have found that bicycling to school or work increases cardiorespiratory fitness, decreases odds of being overweight or obese, and improves mental health. Alternative transportation also reduces traffic congestion and improves air quality by reducing the number of motor vehicles on the road. Residents can be encouraged to bike to work with transportation enhancements that increase safety and convenience for bicycle commuters, such as bike lanes and secure bike parking facilities.
