Trihalomethanes (TTHM)s Contaminants in Drinking Water

Measurement Period: 2023

Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) micrograms in one liter of water (ug/L) concentration in Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) drinking water.

The Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) acceptable for human consumption is less than 80 micrograms per liter (ug/L). The level of trihalomethanes (TTHM)s is consistently well below the MCL set by the EPA for safe drinking water.

Trihalomethanes are disinfection by-products formed during the conventional drinking water treatment process, when used to control germs or chemicals in source water that would otherwise cause disease.

TMWA is required by federal, state and local water regulations to monitor and meet regulatory standards for more than one hundred contaminants. All water delivered to its customers is treated and has been in compliance with all EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and State of Nevada standards and regulations.

For more information on contaminants in drinking water, visit TMWA

Why is this important?

Safe, reliable and high quality drinking water is essential and an environmental determinant of health.

TMWA is a member of the Partnership for Safe Water, implementing prevention programs where legislation and regulation does not exist, to increase drinking water protection against microbial contamination.
