Community Cleanup Volunteers

Measurement Period: 2024
This indicator demonstrates the number of annual volunteers participating in community cleanup programs including Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful's Truckee River Cleanup, Great Community Cleanup, Adopt-a-Spot and Neighborhood Cleanup programs, and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe river cleanups.  These volunteers are actively engaged in river clean-up projects spanning from Verdi to Lockwood, including some tributaries to the Truckee River.

Why is this important?

All river and community cleanup programs completing a variety of organizations and volunteers throughout the region, collectively work to keep the Truckee River Watershed clean and pristine for all to enjoy.

One Truckee River and its partners work  with local stakeholders and landowners to identify projects that are crucial to local ecology in their respective locations within the watershed. These projects include trash pickup and removal, invasive weed and green waste removal, native planting, storm drain stenciling, and other park beautification and maintenance projects.

The measure of the volunteers participating is a good indicator for involvement and commitment of our community to keep the Truckee River safe, clean, protected, and thriving.
